Achieving Organizational Goals Through Leadership Development
Every leader aspires to achieve their organizational goals. However, true success comes only when their teams excel and new leaders are developed. A thriving organization is built on a foundation of individuals who are trained, equipped, and empowered to lead effectively.
2 Corinthians 8:7 (AMP) But just as you excel in everything and lead the way in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in genuine concern, and in your love for us, see that you excel in this gracious work of giving also.
What Does It Mean to Excel?
To excel means to surpass others, to shine, to outdo, and to master a skill or responsibility. Until individuals excel in their assignments, they are not yet qualified to lead. Leadership and excellence go hand in hand. The Apostle Paul emphasized training believers to excel in all areas so they could become leaders worth following. No one follows someone who is not excelling in the area they lead.
Three Reasons People Do Not Excel in Their Present Assignments
1) Lack of Ability or Work Ethic
A. No One Excels in an Area Where They Lack Ability. Even God does not give us responsibilities beyond our abilities. The good news is that abilities can grow through training and experience.
Matthew 25:15 (ESV) To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability…
B. No One Excels Without Hard Work. Excelling requires effort, discipline, and perseverance. Those unwilling to work hard will never reach their full potential.
Proverbs 20:4 (EXB) Lazy farmers don’t plow when they should, in the winter; they expect a harvest, but there is none.
2) Lack of Proper Training
Discipleship is all about training others. If you are a leader, you must declare: “I am a trainer!”
A. The Bible is Our Training Manual.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (AMP) All Scripture is God-breathed, given by divine inspiration and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness, learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage; so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
B. A Godly Leader’s Responsibility is to Train Others to Excel. Leaders are called to equip and build others up for ministry and spiritual maturity.
Ephesians 4:12-13 (NLT) Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.
The Greek word equip (katartismos) means to perfect, to prepare, to make ready, to supply with whatever is needed for a particular activity or purpose.
Ephesians 4:12-13 (EHV) For the purpose of training the saints for the work of serving, in order to build up the body of Christ. This is to continue until we all reach unity in the faith and knowledge of the Son of God, resulting in a mature man with a stature reaching to the measure of the fullness of Christ.
